Loving on my Knees

Do these words ring a bell to you? I, (name), take you (name), to be my (wife/husband), to have and to hold from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part.

I remember the days when preparing for the big day. When my husband and I got married. The day we promised each other to be together for life no matter what.

I don't have a perfect marriage. So I  pray for my marriage and my home on a daily basis, so that we can be together for life. So that the enemy which are sin and satan don't destroy our marriage.

Lately the theme I've been hearing among believers, which has become popular is: we are separated. My husband left me. My wife left me. I can't live with him/her anymore. He/She is driving me crazy. He walked out on me. I can't take it anymore!

We want to bail out on the 1st year of marriage because the person we married doesn't meet our expectations. We begin to pray, Lord change him, and we pray with wrong motives, instead of praying Lord change me. And when things don't go our way and we don't see the change we asked for, we want out.

The word vow means: to give, consecrate, or dedicate to God.
As wives, we are constantly giving of ourselves to take care of our husband and children. But our husbands are also giving of themselves by going out of the home to provide for the family. Our marriages have been set a part and we have made a commitment not only with our spouse but with God as well.

I've heard of many broken marriages and seen many broken marriages. I've witnessed marriages or homes that were so close to come to an end and eventually they did. Why is that?  I was a part of that kind of home. I grew up in a home with a believing mom and an unbelieving-alcoholic father. But one thing that I vividly remember to this day is my mom being on her knees every single day praying for her home, for her children, for her husband, without ceasing. She loved her husband. And the best way she could love him when he was unlovable was to pray for him.

The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 5:17  to pray without ceasing, this means without giving it up.
1 Corinthians 7:16 says, For how do you know, O wife, whether you will save your husband? Or how do you know, O husband, whether you will save your wife? This refers to the witness we can be for our spouses. Galatians 6:9 says : let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.
I was able to see this kind of faith lived out by my mom. She prayed without giving up, without losing hope that one day my father would come to the saving grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I can testify that many times, she wanted to give up, but she didn't because she loved her family.

Our marriages can be changed and transformed if we allow the Lord to work in our lives. Let's not allow satan get a foothold on our marriages. I can say that the Lord gave me a new father 11 years ago and blessed my mom with a renewed marriage! If we want our marriages to be changed and transformed, lets put into them what they really need, Prayer!

Thanksgiving Countdown

Give thanks with a grateful heart...( I love this song)

I love traditions! I love having memories from days of old!
I want my boys to have those memories as well. Something to think back on. Something to remember family by. Something they can share with their children.
Thanksgiving is only 10 days away!
These next 10 days my family and I will be writing down on different colored construction paper hearts what we are thankful for on each day. We will put these in a basket on the dining table and on Thanksgiving day we will read them all and pray together to give thanks. It can be anything. Anything that the Lord has brought to mind, or something that happened on that particular day. Anything that you've been blessed with. But the point of it all is to meditate on those things and to give thanks to the One who has given it all to us.

It has been difficult at home lately with the children and their behavior. I've been overwhelmed. But as I was in my prayer closet this morning with the Lord a soft whisper reminded me that He is always there to take all my burdens, my worries, etc. I don't have to do it all on my own. He is there to help me.
So my thankful heart for Day 1 is prayer. I am thankful that I can pray to my Father in Heaven and tell him all my worries and ask Him for help.

1 Thessalonians 5:18
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

How do you Pray?

“From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the Lord his God”.
Jonah 2:1

As I was on my way to Target to get a few things I was listening to a preacher talk about prayer. And he was asking why do we pray? What do we pray for? What do we expect out of our prayer?

So it got me thinking as I was listening and as I asked myself those same questions, a reality check kicked in. I realized that I pray for the wrong reasons and wrong motives, because I am a selfish being. I pray when I need God to help me in a certain situation and when I need or want something from Him.

What about the rest of the days? Have I sought Him in prayer to praise Him, to glorify Him for who He is, and for what He has done, for me? How selfish am I that I only show up at the foot of the cross with bended knee, when I need Him? In the midst of my stressing circumstances, and the rest of my days I am independent from Him, because I can do it on my own because He can’t help me.

How am I praying? Am I praying believing that He can do it? Do I realize that when I do pray I am praying to a living and Holy God?! Do I lift prayer up realizing that the King of Kings and Lord of Lords is seated at the throne listening to my prayer and that He is truly alive!

If we don’t pray believing and knowing that to whom we lift our prayers to is living, then we are praying to Him as if He were made of stone.

Can you say to Him what Psalm 91:2 says?

“I will say to the Lord, My refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust”.
