Do you ever wonder how things happen behind the scenes in a , t.v show, movie, Broadway production, etc? Do you ever think about what those involved have to do for that activity to take place? Everyone has a part, everyone has a job, everyone works together in order for that activity to happen.
As I was driving home from church Sunday, I began to think about us, the church, as a body and all that takes place to prepare for Sunday activities. Who does the cleaning? Who prepares the bulletins? Who is in charge of cleaning toys and doing laundry? Who makes the coffee? Who opens and closes the doors? Who prepares the lessons for the children? Who makes copies? Who does what? These are activities, that we know get done, but who does them? Do we know them? Are we making ourselves available for helping in these areas or do we get ourselves involved in activities where we can hear others say; good job, what a great lesson, to get a pat on the back?
Romans 12:4 says; For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function. We all have different abilities, we all have different gifts, etc. But we are also all part of the body. We all need to serve in different areas were there are needs, or at least we should.
As a body we should all be working together so that everything flows well during all the activities that take place on Sunday in our churches (places of worship) like setting up the chairs to prepare for worship service, music, Sunday school lessons, childcare, etc. One of the most difficult areas to fill and to find help with, is in childcare. Because of the season of life many of us are in, with small children, many of us even sigh at the thought of serving in this ministry. We become ill and short tempered, specially with the children and when we serve them we don't do it with a joyful attitude.
At home there are chores that we don't like to do, but someone has to do it, it has to get done, and we all as a family have to do our part. There is so much only one person can do. But when we come with a different mindset, it changes things. It changes the way we do things for one another, it changes the way we serve. When we consider doing these things as unto the Lord, and we don't see serving as a chore, we become different people. We don't whine or complain about what needs to get done. The Bible says in Colossians 3:17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
In 1 Peter 5:5b it says: and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, for God is opposed to the proud,but gives grace to the humble.
In Philippians 2:3 it says: Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves;
So as we are serving during the week, weather at home, work, church, etc. lets do it as unto the Lord, with humility and regard one another as more important than ourselves.
Father, help us to have this kind of mindset of serving and to do it as unto you, in all that we do in our lives. Help us to see with your eyes, so that we can serve one another and bring you glory. In Jesus' name. Amen.
